1 Mile Lake near Chitna

We went on a king and red salmon fishing trip last week, during Friday 13th. The regular campground Liberty Falls had been damaged during the fall last year and was closed, so we had to find a rough place to camp. In Alaska, you do not know what is going to happen next and you learn to go with the flow and listen to your instincts. We were tired from driving six hours from Fairbanks and really didn't want to drive to much further. My luck held out and we found a beautiful quite peaceful spot at 1 mile lake near Chitna around 11 pm. Twilight was just ensuing by the time we set up camp, and then around midnight there was a moose on the far side eating aquatic plants and two great horned owls were hooting melodically to each other. Therefore, I joined in. I can repeat alot of sounds and love to do bird calls. They usually think I am another bird and they come closer, thus being another intricate part of nature. The male flew overhead and landed on a branch only 1 meter away, which sagged under his weight. He started hooting quizzically at me and twisted his head around looking at me with his huge curious eyes. We stared at each other for a while and a weir cool thing happened. Our minds touched and raw emotion flowed through, that words can not justify. Trust me I hadn't been drinking or smoking. Beautiful moments can occur when you open yourself up to life.
